Crimely Privacy Policy
Effective: 19 August 2025 • Version: 1.0
Crimely helps you understand local safety using publicly available crime data. We keep data collection to a minimum and explain clearly what we process and why.
Who we are
Controller: Crimely (United Kingdom), operated by Adam Massias. Contact: adammassias93@gmail.com • UK phone: +44 7923 265 827.
What we collect
- Postcodes you enter and your chosen radius (to fetch crime data for that area).
- Approximate location (optional) if you allow Location Services, used to centre the map and queries.
- Device & diagnostics (e.g., device model, iOS version, basic crash/performance data) if enabled on your device.
- IP address & request logs captured by our infrastructure for security and abuse prevention.
- Support messages you send us via email or phone.
What we do not collect
- No account registration; no passwords.
- No precise, continuous background tracking.
- No third-party advertising SDKs; we do not sell personal data.
Where data comes from
- You: postcodes you search, optional location (if granted), support emails/calls.
- Public sources: police crime datasets and postcode lookups (non-personal data).
How we use your data (purposes & lawful bases)
- Provide the app’s features (area scores, comparisons, trends) — legitimate interests / performance of a service you request.
- Location (if enabled) to centre results — consent (you can change this in iOS Settings at any time).
- Security & abuse prevention (e.g., rate limiting, logs) — legitimate interests.
- Support (responding to emails/calls) — legitimate interests.
- Diagnostics/analytics (stability and performance) — legitimate interests.
Data sharing
- Hosting & infrastructure: Amazon Web Services (AWS) to run our API and store logs.
- Maps: Apple Maps/MapKit to display maps in the iOS app.
- Diagnostics: Apple (crash reports) and similar providers if you opt in at the OS level.
We do not sell your personal data. We share only what’s necessary with service providers under appropriate terms.
Cookies (support website)
Our support site is static and does not set tracking cookies. If we add any analytics or forms in future, this section will be updated accordingly.
Data location & transfers
We may process data in the UK, EEA, and other countries where our providers operate (including the US). When data leaves the UK/EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent).
Retention
- Query logs (including IP) are kept for up to 30 days for security and troubleshooting.
- Support emails are retained as long as needed to handle your request, then archived per legal requirements.
- We don’t build persistent profiles of your searches.
Your rights (UK/EEA)
You can request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection to processing. You can also withdraw location consent at any time in iOS Settings.
How to exercise your rights: email adammassias93@gmail.com with your request. We may ask for information to verify your identity. We’ll respond within one month as required by law.
You can complain to the UK ICO (ico.org.uk) if you are unhappy with how we handle your data.
Children
Crimely is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child provided us personal data, contact us to delete it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures (e.g., HTTPS, access controls) to protect data. No method is 100% secure.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll change the “Effective” date above and, if changes are material, we’ll provide notice in-app or on our website.
